How to pick a favourite
A difficult question I am asked frequently - which project is my favourite? How do you choose? Impossible.
Like deciding between your children, the seasons of The Wire or which Nick Cave/Warren Ellis Soundtrack is best - impossible and irrelevant surely? They all rock!
I am no longer on the tools as such - far too busy running the business on spreadsheets, coffee and did I mention episodes of The Wire? So it can’t be based on my own 'designers ego'? If I were to choose, what is the criteria?
Favourite design?
Favourite client?
The project that lead to the most work/money/kudos?
The family of it. The collab of it. The ‘all in it togetherness’ of it.
Without getting all ‘The Waltons’ about it (ask your parents) - the clearest criteria for a great FortyTwo project is when the most sets of fingerprints are detected upon it.
Like the twist at the end of Murder on the Orient Express (spoiler warning), it’s the combined capabilities of the team, client and collaborators that, when dovetailed together, create something great that looks and feels amazing and just ‘works’.
The family of it. The collab of it. The ‘all in it togetherness’ of it.
We have been lucky over the years to work on a number of such projects where a mix of all or in part strategy, brand, design, copywriting, imagery, web, marketing and everything in between has lead to something standout. Something I am proud to see as part of FortyTwo’s portfolio.
Most recently, this has meant amongst many others:
Saltire Rare Malts; DTI; The Braemar Gathering; Accord Energy Solutions Limited as well as our upcoming work for Belmont Cinema which we can’t wait to share.
I’m lucky to work with people at the top of their game.
Lucky that we have a fantastic range of clients who seem to enjoy working with us.
Lucky that I’m not doing the work anymore ;)
Now where’s that spreadsheet?
Got a favourite project of your own to share or why not choose one of ours? Let us know.
Take care, Mark
