Say Hello...Mark Kemp
Name: Mark Kemp
Role: Director
Since: The start
Wok Wok Order: 94
For those who don’t know give us a quick rundown of what you do:
Run the day-to-day operations of the company and look after the majority of strategy, business development and sales as well as some account management along the way. Still get involved in some of the creative thinking when needed but the guys in the studio are taking care of that so well, that my days as an on-the-tools designer are almost at an end.
Favourite aspect of your job:
When something just clicks. When a project comes along and the team, the client and the brief all dovetail together perfectly and the end result just ‘works’. I’ve been fortunate enough to have seen that a lot over the past year or so - very satisfying to be part of it.
I also love the ‘craft’ in a design agency - a carefully typeset page, a perfectly considered logo, a well k e rn e d typeface or a stunning webpage layout - I’m still in love with the day-to-day things designers and developers deliver and I always will be.
What do you like doing when you’re not in the studio?
Spending time with my family. It’s important that I schedule my time at work well. I like to spend quality time doing fun or even the mundane things in life with my wife Kirsty and our two boys Josh and Logan so having a good routine is important to me. We live in the sticks so doing anything outdoors with them suits me fine - beach, park, hill or even just the garden, it’s all quality time.
I’m a film snob, a music nostalgist and I love good food and booze way too much. I follow all things art and have been known to paint, draw and print - something I hope to carry on with one day. I play the guitar badly out loud but brilliantly in my head and have promised myself one day to be able to play the Stone Roses ‘Waterfall’ all the way through without an error. We all need our goals in life.
Tell us a wee something about you that folks might not know and or care about.
I was once a child actor (for 1 show and some other bits and bobs!) and have a listing on IMDB.
Lastly - what’s your guilty pleasure:
Cheesy sports movies like ‘Best Shot’, ‘Rudy’ and ‘Remember the Titans’
