Halcyon Spirits are a new type of Independent bottler. With hundreds of rare single malt casks in their collection, Daniel and Craig wanted to share this often celebrated collection with the next generation of whisky drinkers - a fast-growing and youthful audience - who are curious, adventurous and who only align with the brands they really engage with.
Halcyon Spirits' initial collection features some of the most rare and celebrated Single Malts available today, each one commanding a significant value, so it was crucial that the brand and bottle carried this premium position, with individual releases numbering in only hundreds of bottles.
The Halcyon Spirits brand draws directly on the founders' family history, growing up on the Moray Coast the brothers are a 3rd generation fishing family and they wanted clear and tangible links to this rich heritage and their family legacy.
Named after their grandfather's herring boat "The Halcyon" which sailed out of Macduff Harbour on Scotland's Moray Coast in the 1940's, the brand is built on these historical cues. A muted dark colour palette and a monogram which echoes the forms seen in quayside moorings - a shape synonymous with fishing life in Scotland.
To further this connection - we designed a full-wrap tactile high-build varnish for the bottles surface, reminiscent of the traditional Herring nets used by their family for over three generations. This plays beautifully under variable lighting and adds a tactile experience to the bottle. The bottle features a porthole embellishment on its shoulder with the Halcyon brand mark surrounded by the latitude and longitude of their base in Ellon, Aberdeenshire.
The label keeps pace with its high-value releases, with a restrained yet luxury combination of paper stocks and tactile print finish. The label uses a single gold foil with select emboss on Tintoretto Black Pepper by Fedrigoni. Deliberately restrained and elegant, the label leans away from all the trappings of traditional Scotch Whisky labelling, helping the bottle and label stand apart from whats gone before and appeal to the next generation of Single Malt drinkers.
