We were approached by Paul at Deeside Distillers with the brief of rekindling a long forgotten brand Cock O’ The North Single Malt Whisky Liqueur.
Created by one of Scotland’s most famous clans, the Gordons, Cock O’ The North is a rich, sweet Scotch Whisky liqueur made to a generations-old recipe with fine Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Scottish Blaeberry and a secret ingredient known only to the Gordon Clan Chief, The Marquis of Huntly, and his son, The Earl of Aboyne.
This is the first release from Deeside Distillers a new independent spirits business - one which competes with globally recognised brands.
Deeside Distillers are combining this illustrious heritage brand with a commitment to minimising emissions and supporting nature restoration projects.
We were challenged with elevating off the shelf glass and limited processes to build a bottle which at once commands attention on the shelf, stands out when picked up and stays true to its historic and proud legacy.
We used direct to bottle processes to create a delicate rendering of the Gordon Clan heraldry in a prestigious gold metalisation on a sprayed black gloss bottle, which we coupled with a strong royal red label with a highly detailed foil and emboss. We used fluted dies for added depth and tactility without the need for additional tooling.
The name “Cock O’ The North” is taken from a traditional title passed down through generations of Clan Gordon, who have granted use of the title and the Gordon Clan heraldry to the liqueur.
With old bottles of the liqueur becoming something of a collectors’ item in recent years, this project sees Cock O’ The North being produced once again, with modern small-batch methods.
